Start with the event, then the weekend
Write four facts before you pull clothes out of the closet: dress code, outdoor or indoor, weather, and nights away. A garden ceremony in July and a hotel ballroom in January do not share a shoe list.
Mark which pieces are non-negotiable: the dress or suit, the shoes, and anything the couple asked the wedding party to wear. Those items get the safest zone in the bag. Casual clothes fill the leftover volume.

Ceremony clothes
Dresses. Fold structured or formal dresses. Roll only soft knits you could also wear to brunch. Keep the face of the fabric away from zippers. A garment folder helps when the dress is not floor-length or when you are packing a shirt-and-skirt set.

Shoes. Pack the ceremony pair in a bag so soles never touch the dress. Wear bulkier travel shoes on the plane when you can. A third pair is only justified if the welcome party truly needs different footwear.
Jewelry and extras. Pack jewelry in a small pouch, not loose in a cube. Fashion tape, a stain stick, and a spare pair of hosiery or socks take almost no space and fix the problems hotels never stock.
The rest of the weekend
After the ceremony kit is in, add:
- Travel-day clothes you can sit in for hours
- Rehearsal or welcome-party outfit that mixes with the same shoes if possible
- Sleepwear
- Underwear and socks for each night plus one spare set
- One layer for cold churches and over-air-conditioned ballrooms
- Workout clothes only if you will actually use the hotel gym
Skip a second formal look “just in case” unless the itinerary lists two dressy events. The extra outfit is usually what crushes the one you will wear.

Toiletries and grooming
Use travel sizes if you are carry-on only. Pack the products you already use on a normal day, plus blister care if the shoes are new. Hair tools are heavy. Bring them only if the hotel hair dryer is a known failure for your hair.
A hanging toiletry kit is useful, but it is not the first buy on this list. The ceremony clothes fail first. Bathroom bottles fail second. If you already own a hanging kit, use it. Do not add a third organizer for one weekend.
Documents and day-of bag
Keep ID, wedding invitation or venue address, and any rental-car or hotel confirmations in one pouch. Add cash for tips if the venue is cash-heavy.
